Ask anyone and they’ll tell you: Marin interior designer, Bridget Cooper is really fun to be around. We love Bridget’s work, her approachable style, her infectious zest for life, and her contagious Kiwi accent. We sat down with Bridget at The Battery in San Francisco (and a nice bottle of champagne, of course) to hear her story.
Tell us about you:
I’m a passionate interior designer, a devoted wife, a multitasking mother, a fervent explorer of California and a loving friend ready to share a glass of wine!
How did you land in Marin?
My journey to Marin involves many twists and turns that started before Google Maps was even a thing! I left my beautiful home country of New Zealand and moved to New York with $100 in my purse and a head full of dreams. I was 18 years old at the time and (of course) I knew everything. I threw myself into work including a position with The Franklin Report. My eyes were opened to the glistening world of interior design and architecture and I knew instantly that this would be the genre of the story of my life. I began Bridget Cooper Interiors in Chicago. The business was flourishing but, after five years, my husband and I were craving a lifestyle a little closer to the one we cherished in New Zealand. Our kids needed space to run around outside and our kale levels were dangerously low. While visiting San Francisco, I had lunch with friends in Marin and instantly felt at home.
Why did you decide to work with Kate and Mary at Arrive Marin?
When I met Kate and Mary, it was professional love at first sight. I knew immediately that we shared the same excitement for design, the same enthusiasm for truly enriching our client’s lives and the same understanding that it takes hard work and a lot of listening to make each project work.
Describe your dream home:
At my dream home you can completely, unashamedly relax. Its walls celebrate my family’s memories and restore me when I get home, no matter how long I have been away or how far I have traveled. It has a kitchen full of warmth where friends and family can eat cheese, sip champagne and belly laugh. It has lounging areas for napping, watching movies and sharing secrets. Come over!
What’s your favorite spot in Marin?
My favorite spots depend on the season. I love sitting outside at FarmShop on a Friday summer evening with a glass of rosé while listening to jazz and spending time with dear friends.
On weekends I love to go to Cavallo Point with my husband and kids. The kids bike, the dog has a nap on the balcony and my husband and I find time to catch up.
Right now it’s the shack at the end of the jetty at Nick’s Cove with their open fire and the piano. My kids love to play songs and sing and the whole experience feels like a dream.
What was the last book you read?
10% Happier. This book gave me a much better understanding of the power of mindfulness, delivered in Dan Harris’ refreshing sense of humor. I more than 10% recommend it, that’s for sure.
